Forest fragmentation assessment using field-based sampling data from forest inventories

چکیده
Forest fragmentation has a relevant impact on biodiversity. An interesting alternative to estimate these indices is use sampling data. This study aims aggregation index (AI) and the degree of clumping forested landscape based AI. The assessment was conducted using different point distances, inventory regions cardinal directions. For this purpose, dataset from one five-year periods (2007–2011) Swedish National Inventory (NFI) used. estimation AI field-based can give us general picture current status forest landscape. results also show that estimated distance dependent function. corresponding variance smaller for longer distances. obtained indicate depends both sample size pair Estimated showed values in To compare two or given region over time, should be main advantage applied procedure range produced rather than single number. Furthermore, inventory, are more reliable, because works implicitly with definition only.

Adaptive Cluster Sampling for Forest Inventories
FRANCIS A. ROESCH, JR. Adaptive cluster sampling is shown to be a viable alternative for sampling forests when there are rare characteristics of the forest trees which are of interest and occur on clustered trees. The ideas of recent work in Thompson (1990) have been extended to the case in which the initial sample is selected with unequal probabilities. An example is given in which the initial...
متن کاملModeling annual production and carbon fluxes of a large managed temperate forest using forest inventories, satellite data and field measurements.
We evaluated annual productivity and carbon fluxes over the Fontainebleau forest, a large heterogeneous forest region of 17,000 ha, in terms of species composition, canopy structure, stand age, soil type and water and mineral resources. The model is a physiological process-based forest ecosystem model coupled with an allocation model and a soil model. The simulations were done stand by stand, i...
متن کاملLiDAR Sampling Density for Forest Resource Inventories in Ontario, Canada
Over the past two decades there has been an abundance of research demonstrating the utility of airborne light detection and ranging (LiDAR) for predicting forest biophysical/inventory variables at the plot and stand levels. However, to date there has been little effort to develop a set of protocols for data acquisition and processing that would move governments or the forest industry towards co...
متن کاملAn Evaluation of Plotless Sampling Using Vegetation Simulations and Field Data from a Mangrove Forest
In vegetation science and forest management, tree density is often used as a variable. To determine the value of this variable, reliable field methods are necessary. When vegetation is sparse or not easily accessible, the use of sample plots is not feasible in the field. Therefore, plotless methods, like the Point Centred Quarter Method, are often used as an alternative. In this study we invest...
متن کاملLinking Hyperspectral Imagery and Forest Inventories for Forest Assessment in the Central Appalachians
—Hyperspectral imagery from EO-1 Hyperion and AVIRIS were used in conjunction with continuous forest inventory (CFI) data to map detailed forest composition in the state forests of Western Maryland. We developed a hierarchical vegetation classification that conformed to the National Vegetation Classification Standard (NVCS) at the Alliance level and mapped these forest types as a function of hy...
